Hello Everyone

Posted in Events by Florence Nishida - Nov 02, 2010

You wonderful people who came out this past Saturday – congratulations!  We’ve done our first garden/teach-in.  Celeste now has two 4 x 8 ft beds planted with tomato, pepper, mustard, chard, carrots (and she’s going to seed other things), but also an herb circle bed, and a new lemon tree planted!  Though we had only one neighbor, I feel that everyone who worked on getting Celeste’s garden created not only had a great, fun time, but learned something new.  That what makes gardening such a rewarding experience – every bit of ground, yard, plant, etc. can give us surprises or challenges and in the end, great satisfaction.
We’ll be scheduling Ron’s parking strip garden oasis and food farm next.  Hope all you good people and even more turn out – hope to see some of Ron’s neighbors joining us (who will be enjoying the sights, smell,s and maybe tastes of his garden in the near future).
Saturdays seem to agree with most people – so tentatively, let’s schedule for Nov. 20th – from 1 to 4 pm.  Hope you’ll all come, dig, and plant and bring that strip to vibrant life!  I’m bringing some plants to attract hummingbirds.  Bring whatever you want to share.
By the way, this is a great time to take cuttings, root in water or in loose mix of vermiculite and peat moss, or just sand (Nick says he does that).  You can increase your roses, gardenias, some herbs.  Just don’t leave those cuttings out where they’ll dry or when the rains come, they’ll get soggy wet, cold, and unhappy.
Ron’s address: 4501 Exposition Blvd, LA 90016, Corner of Exposition Blvd and Chesapeake St.  Put Nov. 20th on your calendar- see you there!
Cheers,
Florence
