In anticipation of our upcoming Dig-In on October 9th, today LA Green Grounders worked with the E Colden Ave Dig-In hosts Yasmine and Alina on preliminary tasks including mulch deliveries (from LA City’s giveaway) and an initial turning of the front yard soil.

Also, a couple group photos just became available. On the left is the June Dig-In team for W 52nd Place, on the right May’s La Salle Ave Dig-In.

Congratulations, Vanessa and Ricardo, for a great Dig-In! Vanessa communicated often with the family about pre-Dig in preparations, and about their vegetable preferences. They said, “We eat everything!” So, Green Grounds brought chiles, broccoli, mustard greens, collards, lettuce, eggplant, artichokes, parsley, celery plants, and the kids planted carrot, beet, and radish seeds. Ricardo went back repeatedly for loads of compost and mulch to enliven, loosen and improve the hard packed dirt. With every shovelful that he moved, the veggies have a better life. Hard work and fun for all, and a beautiful full front yard vegetable garden is now on their block for all to be inspired by.
